About the vinyl :
It took a village to create Le Motel’s Odd Numbers / Số Lẻ. After gathering sounds in Vietnam, the Brussels-based musician assembled the album in collaboration with many of the people he met while traveling. The result is a rich ambient panorama that takes in multiple scenes and perspectives, from Hanoi’s streets to mountainside Hmong communities, and from rumbling mopeds to the contemplative verse of the poet Phapxa Chan. It’s a singular testament to the power of listening together.

About the artist :
Of Vietnamese origin and raised in France, Yvonne Quỳnh Lan Duong grew up immersed in a dual musical culture. Alongside her piano studies at the École Nationale de Musique (ENM) in Aulnay- sous-Bois, she learned the Vietnamese zither (đàn tranh) and monochord (đàn bau) under the guidance of professors Phuong Oanh, Quỳnh Hanh, and Ho Thuy Trang.
After earning her piano diploma in 2005, she continued to expand her musical studies: choral conducting at the ENM in Villeurbanne, a harmony prize from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique (CNSM) in Paris, a music teaching certification (agrégation de musique), and a master’s degree in ethnomusicology from the Sorbonne, specializing in Vietnamese music (research on classical Vietnamese theater, hát boi).
During her many trips to Vietnam, she honed her skills by taking lessons at the Ho Chi Minh City Conservatory with Professor Nguyen Văn Đoi for the đàn tranh and Nguyen Minh Đao for the đàn bau.
Today, she teaches music education in Brussels secondary schools, directs amateur choirs (for adults and children), and works to promote Vietnamese music through lectures and concerts.
